Start with the measurement
A lower power reading after an update does not, by itself, show that the update caused it. Workload, conditions, connected devices and the measurement point may also have changed.
This guide describes a comparison method. It does not claim that a particular Starlink firmware release produces a fixed efficiency improvement.
Record a repeatable test
- Terminal model and firmware version.
- Power source, cable and measurement point.
- Workload and test duration.
- Temperature, sky view and operating settings.
- Other devices sharing the source.
- Interruptions and unusual behaviour.
Compare similar sessions. A short idle sample and a long mixed-use session answer different questions.
Keep the power path consistent
Use equipment that meets the terminal’s current requirements. An update does not establish that an unsuitable cable or output is compatible.
For MK-1, Mini uses the dedicated DC 30V / 2A max output. The USB-C port is a separate input/output rated up to 65W for compatible devices and charging.
Translate results into a plan
MK-1’s 189Wh rated energy and approximately 5–8-hour internally tested Mini runtime provide a reference. They do not establish the effect of a particular firmware version.
Use your repeatable measurements to plan the session and reserve. Check Starlink’s own support information for current terminal guidance, and report the conditions alongside any result you share.
